Total weight lost: 58 pounds so far
“I have gained many benefits from this weight management program. One is an increase in self-esteem. I'm proud of myself!” – Nan Zeanah of Hoover, AL
Over the years I have lost a lot of weight and over time I would gradually gain most of it back. I always promised myself that I wouldn’t allow that to happen. But I did!
I saw how others were getting results working with Dr. Uppala and her weight management program. Part of me was jealous. So in February of 2018 I met with Dr. Uppala and began my weight loss program and by August I was on the maintenance portion of the program.
In the past, I did well going on low carb diets. But somehow I had a harder time being consistent. I had never counted calories before and this is what Dr. Uppala had me do from the beginning. Honestly, I hated keeping a food diary; but again, that’s what she asked me to do and I did. I used my fitness pal app on my phone to keep track of everything. Having someone hold me accountable for my actions is exactly what I needed.
I realize there are no guarantees in weight loss. I always worry that I will gain it back. But this time, I know that if I make a lifestyle change and use the tools and information provided by Dr. Uppala then I should be ok.
My health was the motivating factor for me to pursue weight loss and a program that I could live with for the rest of my life I wanted to be smaller because I have osteoarthritis and one day I’ll need to have hip and knee replacement surgery. My orthopedic surgeon told me that carrying around less weight and being flexible will help in the long run. So in addition to the weight loss, I now exercise which not only helps with mobility but also with bone strength.
I also realize I’m not getting any younger. As I age, I don’t want to be a burden to my family. Weight loss impacts every aspect of your life and hopefully this will prevent me from having to depend on my children or my husband down the road.
Now I feel like I look good in my clothes. The healthy weight loss is making the way I see myself equal with the way I think others see me. My body image and my self-image are so much better.
For others who are struggling with obesity, I encourage you to get help! Find a buddy who can help and keep you on track. You will have better success and longevity by having someone to share the journey.
Weight loss isn’t something you do because someone else wants you to. For years my doctor would harp on me to lose weight. But it didn’t do any good because I had not made up my mind that I was ready to make the necessary changes. To be successful it has to be your idea. If you are not motivated and ready to make the change then it won’t happen.
